 Eat Healthier
Children and adults
could be putting their health at risk by refusing to eat fruit and vegetables,
research reveals.
One in 20 of the 2635 children questioned by
polling firm MORI for the Cancer Research Campaign claimed not to have eaten any
vegetables in the last week, with one in 17 not eating any fruit. Most of the children, aged 11 to 16 from
England and Wales, said they had eaten fewer than 13 portions in the last seven
days. The Cancer Research Campaign said the findings were alarming as research
had shown that a good diet rich in fruit and vegetables could reduce the number
of cancer deaths by up to a third. Dr Lesley Walker, the charity's director of
cancer information, said the reluctance of children to follow a healthy diet
could have serious implications for their health later in life.
